Last week, the kids and I met two of my ex-coworkers for lunch. Neither of these ladies are "kid people," nor are they touchy-feely or warm-and-fuzzy, but it's always nice to catch up with them and hear the latest news from the firm. The next day, I got the nicest email from one of them. I can't overstate how out of character this type of email is, which is big part of why it meant so much! Here it is:
Just wanted to let you know...I was so impressed with Ellie! She was very polite and always said “Thank you” and even remembered my name when I had only told it to her one time. I imagine being a mom can be a pretty thankless job sometimes. You don’t get a year-end review with a bonus for good performance. I’m not even qualified to “evaluate” you, but to me it looks like you are doing a great job!
I'm so proud of the amazing little girl that Ellie is becoming -- it's an honor to be her mama and I feel so lucky that her sweet nature reflects on me. :-)

Such a great message, and you definitely deserve the glowing review! :)
Way to go Ellie! And Mommy :)
I love this review and couldn't agree more!!!
Yes, what they said. Ellie is such a sweetie (as is Charlie) and the parents deserve a LOT of the credit. I've always argued that Dad deserves half the credit, but just between us girls, Mom is The One.
Congrats to you both!
Now just keep repeating those words to yourself - your new mantra. I love how when you get really serious about something with the kids, you voice gets quiet. They just know then that they better pay attention. Good for you!
